Latest Logistics Position In Turkey

February 09, 2023

Undoubtedly, we have all witnessed the harrowing scenes coming from Turkey, following the two earthquakes that struck the southern region of the country on Monday morning.

Our hearts and prayers go out to the people of Turkey, and  Syria, that have been so badly affected by this terrible tragedy.

Naturally, logistics within the region have been impacted, predominantly in the South, near the country’s border with Syria.

While road freight services continue to and from Northern cities, such as Istanbul and Ankara, there may be delays due to priority being given to the rescue and aid movements. Understandably, transport and logistics in much of the Southern part of the country, near the epicentres, have come to a halt.

The port of Iskenderun remains closed after receiving significant structural damage. Carriers are making alternative arrangements to offload containers destined for the port at alternative nearby ports, such as Mersin.

For air cargo, Turkey’s major airports remain open and operating as normal, with only Southern airports currently affected. Adana airport (ADA) was initially closed but is now operating slowly, while Gaziantep (GZT) remains closed to all civilian flights. Air cargo is also likely to be affected by priority being given to rescue and aid movements.

We urge customers to check the latest position with a member of the Freedom team, before arranging any shipments to or from Turkey.
